This Sunday, June 18, come celebrate part of Father’s Day with us at Arbutus Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. Admission is always FREE! We have food on site, serving great breakfast and lunch options. Search for some special music gifts for your favorite dad! One of our favorite dads is Frank Ruehl who runs this great show with his better half, Janet. Also one or the other of Frank’s daughters and his son-in-law also help out with the shows. Show your dad some music love with some great gifts!
This is a rare treasure found at the show last month by one of our buyers – a lithograph, titled “Frank Zappa (1940-1993) Only In It For The Music” (possibly a reference and homage to Zappa and one of his first albums We’re Only in It for the Money). It was created and hand signed by Cal Schenkel – only one of 1000 printed! This artist specializes in album cover design and became the main visual artist for Baltimore native Frank Zappa when they met in 1967. The albums included We’re Only in it for the Money, The Grand Wazoo, Cruising with Ruben & the Jets, Just another Band from L.A and One Size Fits All to name to name a few. Some say he was the precursor to the era of punk and new wave art. He appeared in two of Zappa’s films and even did a few vocals on Lumpy Gravy. Schenkel also designed album covers for such artists as comic Lenny Bruce and Tom Waits.
A few other treasures found last month – a Beatles banner, a Mick Jagger poster (front and back) and a collection of rare Elvis records.
