We recently lost one of the great legends of pop music at age 94, Burt Bacharach. His influence and all the great musicians who have covered his extensive catalog is incalculable! You can find tons of albums everywhere at the show.

We also had a lovely, new vendor last month, Adam Marsh from Leesburg, and hope we will be seeing him at more shows in the future.

We had a great show last month with lots of people coming to shop. Some festive folks from The December show!

Below are many of the great things we spotted, including some very lunch boxes, buttons, vinyl (of course), Beatles items, even a record player and some vintage toys were for sale—and of course Christmas albums. We always remember Elvis in January as well. It’s time to start thinking about LOVE and Valentine’s Day coming up since our next show will be after that holiday.

Celebrate the season with us while looking for wonderful music gifts! We are open from 9 am to 3 pm and admission and parking are always FREE!

Lots of exciting things from last month’s show! First we had a special treat of LIVE music from “Lonesome” Dave Fisher, his very talented son Gus (he’s only 12 and starting playing guitar only two years ago) on guitar, and his bass player Brad, with three mini-sets at 10 am 11 am, and 12 noon. (He also performs at the iconic The Horse You Came In On Saloon in Fell’s Point.) Dave plays “Real 1950s-Styled Rockabilly Music.” He also had some of his music, T-shirts, buttons, and stickers for sale.

Dave is not only talented but a really nice guy! He came from Colorado during the pandemic and they discovered a wonderful house in Baltimore. They love the weird, fun, and creative vibe of Baltimore and he says that everyone here is really friendly (we like to hear that!) Dave gives lessons at the School of Rock here and also teaches guitar, ukulele, and pre-school music classes at the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School in Pikesville. He’s working on a recording project in December. We welcome him and his family and wish him all the best and success with his music here in Baltimore!

We also have our 2023 schedule available so pick up a flyer at the show!

School is back, fall is almost here, and so is our next show on Sunday, September 18!

IMG_7685We are back with our show on Sunday, SEPTEMBER 18! Join us at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. NO admission and plenty of FREE parking! Last month’s show was amazing and the most vendors since the pandemic. (A little secret is that you can come as early as 7:30 am and perhaps snag some super special finds -sshhh).

Sadly we just lost one of greats— jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis, 87, who successfully crossed over to pop success with “The In Crowd” which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. A fabulous live recording was done locally in DC at the Bohemian Caverns. He received the 2007 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Award. Lewis was also a mentor to Maurice White who was in Lewis’ trio. He would later go out on his own to form another legendary band, Earth, Wind, and Fire, which clearly had a jazz influence in their music and made them one of the most successful bands ever.

On a lighter note, yours truly had the great opportunity of seeing a legendary band in concert this summer—British new wave rockers Duran Duran. On their 40th Anniversary Tour, they made a stop at Merriweather and put on a fabulous show with the uber-talented Nile Rodgers and Chic opening for them (Rodgers produced their album “Notorious.”) Thanks to the fans, Duran will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November in Los Angeles.

Summer is not over yet, so get some cool deals at our next show, Sunday, August 21, 9 am -3 pm at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department in Arbutus. Always free admission and plenty of free parking!

Boy, there were there so many different and interesting finds at last month’s show! First up since our wonderful, young Orioles team is doing so well, we came across some cool albums, immortalizing the 1964 pennant race, “Pennant Fever,” an album about the “Earl of Baltimore,” Earl Weaver, and “1970: Year of the Birds,” exciting play-by-play action of the Orioles flight to the World Championship.

IMG_7681

Keeping with the sports theme, we found a set of albums about famous Formula One race car drivers of the past, including legendary British driver (Sir) Stirling Moss, American champion Phil Hill, American designer, racing driver, and entrepreneur Carroll Shelby (you can learn more about him and his challenge (as a Ford man) to Ferrari in the film, “Ford vs. Ferrari”), and the colorful Spaniard who drove for Ferrari, The Marquis de Portago.

IMG_7680

The debut album by The Runaways in 1976. Joan Jett is on the cover and she was only 16 years old! A steal at $50!

IMG_7694

Finally, one of the very few, perhaps the biggest, group to challenge the nearly total dominance of The Beatles in the 1960s, America’s own, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. This rare album (for $400!) pits them in “The International Battle of the Century,” put out by Vee-Jay Records. They were both legendary in their own way!

Cool off from the summer heat with sizzling deals at our next show, Sunday, July 17!

IMG_7502

Here’s one of our favorite dads – Frank with his daughter, Chrissy on Father’s Day at last month’s show!

Thank you for sharing some of Father’s Day with us last month! Our July show is now a regular event for the second year! So beat the July heat and we will see you on Sunday, July 17th! Look for fun, summer tunes to rock your next barbecue or vacation! The show runs 9 am – 3 pm, and as always no admission and FREE, ample parking at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department.

Revealed from our Facebook post—one of our longtime vendors and music guru, Dave Hoffer, holding a poster from November 1970 for a concert at Painter’s Mill—sadly, long-gone. From 1970-71, Dave was the stage manager. The poster was all drawn by hand by Michael Goldberg. Some great acts, early in their career, came through the Painters Mill Music Fair—including Elton John. Also look at the ticket prices back then! It also lists the stores in the Baltimore/DC area where you could buy the tickets like Record and Tape, Time/Peace Boutique and Bum Steer. Groovy!

IMG_7508

Here’s another vintage poster from Pennsylvania. Again, look at those ticket prices!

Some very cool, record finds!

Mr. Groundhog was mistaken! Looks like Spring is already here. It’s a good time to visit our next show, Sunday, March 20!

Spring is just around the corner and so is our March show! Come by Sunday, March 20 at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. Admission is FREE and parking is FREE! Remember to bring your own food and drink and don’t forget the green. St. Patty’s Day comes before the show but there is still plenty of “gold-en” music to uncover. We will have lots of great vendors and music treasures.

It was a great show in February! You may have noticed a young man taking photos and filming. His name is Anderson Branch. A young Navy man, he made the Arbutus Record show the subject an an assignment for his Photojournalism class at the Defensive Information School, Ft. Meade. You can see his wonderful little film by clicking here! Thank you Anderson!

More to come…

We had a great show before Christmas! It was so great to see Butch and Linda at the show again. They always manage to hunt up some great finds. This time it was some great signage from back in the day – the Buddy Deane show on the  WITH radio station and a big sign for Buddy Deane’s Bandstand on WJZ-TV, 3-5 pm Monday -Friday! They also had a bumpersticker for WJZ and a whole bunch of super groovy radios called the Toot-a-Loop Radio by Panasonic, made in Japan in the early 1970s. It was designed to wrap around your wrist  – all great finds!
