It’s hard to believe it is our final show of 2022 on Sunday, December 18 —just in time for holiday shopping for Christmas and also the first day of Hanukkah! Celebrate the season with us while looking for wonderful music gifts! We are open from 9 am to 3 pm and admission and parking are always FREE!

Lots of exciting things from last month’s show! First we had a special treat of LIVE music from “Lonesome” Dave Fisher, his very talented son Gus (he’s only 12 and starting playing guitar only two years ago) on guitar, and his bass player Brad, with three mini-sets at 10 am 11 am, and 12 noon. (He also performs at the iconic The Horse You Came In On Saloon in Fell’s Point.) Dave plays “Real 1950s-Styled Rockabilly Music.” He also had some of his music, T-shirts, buttons, and stickers for sale.

Dave is not only talented but a really nice guy! He came from Colorado during the pandemic and they discovered a wonderful house in Baltimore. They love the weird, fun, and creative vibe of Baltimore and he says that everyone here is really friendly (we like to hear that!) Dave gives lessons at the School of Rock here and also teaches guitar, ukulele, and pre-school music classes at the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School in Pikesville. He’s working on a recording project in December. We welcome him and his family and wish him all the best and success with his music here in Baltimore!

We also have our 2023 schedule available so pick up a flyer at the show!

It was a great show in February! You may have noticed a young man taking photos and filming. His name is Anderson Branch. A young Navy man, he made the Arbutus Record show the subject an an assignment for his Photojournalism class at the Defensive Information School, Ft. Meade. You can see his wonderful little film by clicking here! Thank you Anderson!

“See you in September!” School is back, fall is almost here, & our next show is September 19!

We are back
with our record show on Sunday, September 19! Join us at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. As always, NO admission and plenty of FREE parking! There is still no food available yet at the hall, so please remember to bring your own food and drinks. Masking is recommended.

Last month’s show was amazing! We had a very special guest vendor, Kathy McCabe, the producer of an amazing award-winning 2013 documentary, Good Ol’ Freda about The Beatle’s devoted and loyal secretary, Freda Kelly who waited 50 years to talk about her experiences. It was also first independent film to have successfully licensed original Beatles recordings (4), including “I Will” and “I Saw Her Standing There.”

Kathy McCabe is an award-winning photographer and Beatles expert with widespread experience in the music industry. She has worked as a publicist and manager, a music video and album producer, and also a recording studio manager. She initiated and engineered the production of Good Ol’ Freda. Kathy was so lovely to talk to! Along with selling copies of the DVD, she was also selling a few gems from her own massive Beatles collection. We hope to see her again at another one of our record shows!

Kathy is actually a Baltimore girl from Catonsville who now lives in Alabama on the Gulf Coast. She met Freda in the 1970s and became a good friend. Forty years later at a family wedding, Freda decided to open up to Kathy about her experiences. She said she wanted her grandson Nile to know what she had done in her youth. Freda was also the president of The Beatles fan club and gave away all of her Beatle memorabilia after the group disbanded. Freda is currently involved with an upcoming film about Brian Epstein – she was also his secretary. The most important thing to her was meeting Beatles fans all over the world. Freda still lives outside of Liverpool and over the years, Kathy has visited her often.

“Freda had just graduated from school and was working her first job as a secretary, as a typist, at a food cannery; and two of the guys from upstairs, two of the accountants, took her to the Cavern during a lunchtime session. She’d never seen The Beatles or heard of The Beatles, and they used to play the lunchtime sessions every day in Liverpool. So they took her for her lunch break, and she fell in love right away, and started going every single day; I think she saw The Beatles like 180 times during their lunchtime sessions. So The Beatles became familiar with Freda always being in the audience, so when it became time to hire a secretary, they knew that there was this girl that was always there, and she got hired. She was 17 years old.”

Michael and michelle

We also welcome relatively new vendors, Michael and Michelle! They had a wonderful selection of Beatles memorabilia at their table last month and they like to bring different things for each show. Michael was a DJ at WRNR in Annapolis for 10 years before it was taken over by a big corporation. He bought his first record when he was seven years old and also has a huge CD collection. Come by their table and say hello. You never know what music treasure they might bring with them!

Another great find at the show was a replica of the cover of THE WALL album by Pink Floyd (see below). Our own resident dad, Frank Ruehl, found that gem and he thinks it was handmade  –  really a fantastic job!

Another great show on March 18th show – and we were still celebrating St. Patty’s Day!

We had another great show at the Arbutus Fire Hall on March 18th! Janet and Derek were all decked out in their green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and the ladies in the kitchen served up delicious corned beef and cabbage while the hall was filled with vendors and shoppers hunting for special treasures!

We experienced a great moment that proves you are never too young to start collecting! We was so thrilled to meet Jacob who came to the show with his dad. At eight years old, he acquired his love for the The Beatles through his mom. He was so proud to pose with his two record album finds which are unquestionably classics – Hey Jude and Abbey Road!  We look forward to seeing more of Jacob (below) at our upcoming shows!

Sam Locke from the Record Exchange also set up a booth (below) with great music selections! Welcome Sam!

bob and evan IMG_8472

Last year we had a chance to talk to two of our great vendors who work together as a team  – Bob (left) and Evan (right). They joined forces about two years ago when Evan found a treasure trove of albums – almost 11,000 records! – from one collector and they decided to purchase the whole lot. We discovered that Evan is a contemporary jazz lover (like Paul Hardcastle and Pat Metheny) and Bob is a HUGE Beatles fan. As they said, you never know what you are going to find [at the Arbutus Record Show] or who you are going to meet. These two are great guys – always cheerful and friendly, and they come to the show with wonderful music finds! So stop by their booth this Sunday and say “hi” while looking through their selection of albums and other goodies.

We thank our wonderful vendors, like Bob and Evan, and our patrons. Looks like it’s going to be another great year in 2018! See you this Sunday!

We also have a lovely new vendor who debuted last month and will return this Sunday! Kara Partyka has a beautiful booth full of the artwork of many talented artists who have done portraits and interpretations of iconic musicians. She even makes her own original rock and roll themed greeting cards. Hidden among Kara’s treasures are hard to find dolls of performers such as Debbie Harry aka Blondie and the late Joey Ramone, lead singer of the New York City punk band, the Ramones. We are sure she will bringing more of her cool finds this Sunday so stop by and say hello!
