It’s hard to believe it is our final show of 2022 on Sunday, December 18 —just in time for holiday shopping for Christmas and also the first day of Hanukkah! Celebrate the season with us while looking for wonderful music gifts! We are open from 9 am to 3 pm and admission and parking are always FREE!

Lots of exciting things from last month’s show! First we had a special treat of LIVE music from “Lonesome” Dave Fisher, his very talented son Gus (he’s only 12 and starting playing guitar only two years ago) on guitar, and his bass player Brad, with three mini-sets at 10 am 11 am, and 12 noon. (He also performs at the iconic The Horse You Came In On Saloon in Fell’s Point.) Dave plays “Real 1950s-Styled Rockabilly Music.” He also had some of his music, T-shirts, buttons, and stickers for sale.

Dave is not only talented but a really nice guy! He came from Colorado during the pandemic and they discovered a wonderful house in Baltimore. They love the weird, fun, and creative vibe of Baltimore and he says that everyone here is really friendly (we like to hear that!) Dave gives lessons at the School of Rock here and also teaches guitar, ukulele, and pre-school music classes at the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School in Pikesville. He’s working on a recording project in December. We welcome him and his family and wish him all the best and success with his music here in Baltimore!

We also have our 2023 schedule available so pick up a flyer at the show!

Time to get some cool tunes and music deals for hot, summer days! It’s a 4th Sunday show, MAY 22! It’s right before the start of summer, Memorial weekend. The hours are 9 am – 3 pm and ADMISSION is always FREE! Plenty of FREE parking! Bring family and tell your friends! The Arbutus Record Show is held at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department Hall located at 5200 Southwestern Boulevard in beautiful Arbutus, MD.

We had a wonderful show in April, very busy all through the day and we also had some fun buyers! Carl is a drummer and teacher in the county and told us a great story about Jim Chapin who was Harry Chapin‘s father but also a great musician in his own right! He was a jazz drummer, the author of books about jazz drumming and was posthumously inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2011. He played with some of the great bands led by Woody Herman and Tommy Dorsey. Carl met Jim who offered to mentor one of his students for two hours at his studio on Long Island—and he himself also learned so much from him!

Spring has finally arrived! Hop on over to our show on April 18!

IMG_5106

Our fearless leaders, Janet and Frank!

Spring is finally here! Deals will be blooming at our next show, Sunday, April 18, at the Arbutus Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. Admission is FREE and parking is FREE! This is our normal third weekend of the month since the spring holidays were early this year. We still have to wear our masks in compliance with the state law and safety for everyone. Please continue to MASK UP,  socially distance, and bring your own food and drink.

Last month’s show was AMAZING with such a great crowd all day long. It was also a wonderful opportunity to get some great photos as well of lots of the great finds at the show!
Yes that fuzzy creature holds 45s!

We had the opportunity to meet Lou Vlangas, who partners with our wonderful announcer, Derek Shaw at the Keystone Record Collectors show, the Pennsylvania Music Expo, every month (usually the weekend before the Arbutus show). Lou is the show coordinator, announcer and does the table reservations. At our show in March he showed up with a gem! The first 45 record every pressed, recorded by Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup – and it’s even color vinyl!

Lou, top left and his prize 45 record. A steal at $400!

SPRING IS COMING! So is our next show, Sunday, March 28!

Spring is just around the corner and so is our March show! This month it is the fourth Sunday! Come by Sunday, March 28 at the Arbutus Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. Admission is FREE and parking is FREE! We had a great show in February but, alas, all the great photos taken were lost when the old phone just couldn’t go on. I have a new one and ready to shoot lots of great photos at the March show. Below are a couple of Janet’s great shots.

Even though we hope many of of you have or will be getting vaccines, we still have to wear our masks in compliance with the state law. Continue to MASK UP,  socially distance, and bring your own food and drink. We will have lots of great vendors and music treasures.152840648_1859350910884052_6654647884053247190_n

Remember the days when you sat listening to your favorite song on the radio so you could tape it on your cassette player? Remember all those favorite mix tapes? We can thank Dutch inventor, Lou Ottens, who passed on March 6, 2021 at the age of 94. Not only did he invent the audio cassette, he also invented the CD player! The chart below, credit to Forbes India, illustrates his contributions. Where would music lovers be without him? We have lots of dealers who sell both cassettes and CDs.

Happy New Year! Join us for the first show of 2021 on Sunday, January 17th.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and safe New Year! It was a challenging one. We had to cancel a few shows but there were great shows towards the end of 2020 — and respectful of Covid safety. Thank you all — vendors, customers and followers — for your continuing support!

We are looking forward to a year of great shows in 2021 but let’s start with our first show of the year on Sunday, January 17th! Great vendors will be at the Arbutus Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm where admission AND parking is always FREE. Please continue to adhere to COVID safety precautions — wear your mask at all times (covering the mouth AND nose) and socially-distance. We aren’t able to have food served for purchase yet, so remember to bring your own food and drinks.

We sadly lost so many great musicians last year, and most recently Gerry Marsden of the great British band of the Beatles era —also from Liverpool and also managed by Brian Epstein — Gerry and the Pacemakers. Legend has it that he wrote “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying” for his girlfriend at the time because they had broken up — and she became his wife! We will miss that golden voice. We lost so many from all over the music spectrum — Little Richard, Eddie Van Halen, Bill Withers, Kenny Rogers, John Prine, Helen Reddy, Mac Davis, Charlie Daniels, and so many, many more. Thankfully we will always have their great music and it is one heck of a band upstairs!

Reposting our new flyer for the year so mark your calendars and see you Sunday!

Come shop for wonderful music gifts at our show on December 20th and celebrate the season! It’s been a challenging year but we have hope for 2021!

We had a great show last month! It has been a challenging year but we were able to resume our shows and this is the last for 2020 – Sunday, December 20 —just in time for the holidays! Celebrate the season while looking for wonderful music gifts – DVDs, CDs, vinyl, posters, books, T-shirts, picture discs, and much more! We are open from 9 am to 3 pm and admission and parking are always FREE!  Please continue to adhere to COVID safety precautions and wear your mask at all times (which means covering the mouth AND nose) and socially-distance. This is particularly important at this time.

Sadly we lost another great one, country music singer Charley Pride. He was a pioneer with a golden voice. Could be you can find some of his wonderful Christmas albums at the show.

Here are some other Christmas goodies to hunt for!

Our NEW 2021 schedule is posted in our ABOUT section of the website. A new flyer with the upcoming dates will be available at the show. Wishing you all a blessed and safe holiday and a happy New Year!

Success! We are back again for our show this month on Sunday, August 16!

Desmond Moulton

There was a celebrity in our midst at the last month. Desmond Moulton is an award-winning conductor, vocal music educator, and a Neilsen SoundScan-charting singer/songwriter from New York City. His new album, “Happiness is Priceless,” recently debuted at Number 4 on the Nielsen SoundScan Reggae Chart.
