Revealed from our Facebook post—one of our longtime vendors and music guru, Dave Hoffer, holding a poster from November 1970 for a concert at Painter’s Mill—sadly, long-gone. From 1970-71, Dave was the stage manager. The poster was all drawn by hand by Michael Goldberg. Some great acts, early in their career, came through the Painters Mill Music Fair—including Elton John. Also look at the ticket prices back then! It also lists the stores in the Baltimore/DC area where you could buy the tickets like Record and Tape, Time/Peace Boutique and Bum Steer. Groovy!

Here’s another vintage poster from Pennsylvania. Again, look at those ticket prices!

Also the new ELVIS film is coming out on June 24 and, as you can see at the top of the post, we had a vendor with a great collection of Elvis memorabilia! We are pretty sure they will be back this month. Also spotted were some great posters and books. Below are some more great finds!

IMG_7208

Time to get some cool tunes and music deals for hot, summer days! It’s a 4th Sunday show, MAY 22! It’s right before the start of summer, Memorial weekend. The hours are 9 am – 3 pm and ADMISSION is always FREE! Plenty of FREE parking! Bring family and tell your friends! The Arbutus Record Show is held at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department Hall located at 5200 Southwestern Boulevard in beautiful Arbutus, MD.

We had a wonderful show in April, very busy all through the day and we also had some fun buyers! Carl is a drummer and teacher in the county and told us a great story about Jim Chapin who was Harry Chapin‘s father but also a great musician in his own right! He was a jazz drummer, the author of books about jazz drumming and was posthumously inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2011. He played with some of the great bands led by Woody Herman and Tommy Dorsey. Carl met Jim who offered to mentor one of his students for two hours at his studio on Long Island—and he himself also learned so much from him!

We had a great crowd! See all the great things below we found last month at the show and there will be more at this month’s show.

Spring is finally here! Deals will be blooming at our special 4th SUNDAY SHOW, April 24, at the Arbutus Volunteer Department Fire Hall in Arbutus from 9 am – 3 pm. Admission is FREE and parking is FREE! All our great vendors will be there with tons of fun music items. We found some pretty cool local collectibles too from a poster from the local bar Leadbetters Tavern in Fells Point to The WBAL Radio 11 Album.

Leadbetters

The record was produced in 1977 with photos of the great team at WBAL Radio 11 including Elaine Stein, Alan Christian, and Bob Jones, among others. All the proceeds from the sale of the album went to the WBAL Radio Kid Campaign to help underprivileged kids in Baltimore City. What a great cause!

Below are tons of other goodies that can be found at the show! See you there!

It was a great show in February! You may have noticed a young man taking photos and filming. His name is Anderson Branch. 2022 flyer

We had a great show before Christmas! It was so great to see Butch and Linda at the show again. They always manage to hunt up some great finds. This time it was some great signage from back in the day – the Buddy Deane show on the  WITH radio station and a big sign for Buddy Deane’s Bandstand on WJZ-TV, 3-5 pm Monday -Friday! They also had a bumpersticker for WJZ and a whole bunch of super groovy radios called the Toot-a-Loop Radio by Panasonic, made in Japan in the early 1970s. It was designed to wrap around your wrist  – all great finds!

We gave Mr. Jack a birthday salute! He turned 91 years young in September! We think it’s the music and the fact that he is still a vendor at our show that keeps him young and full of life 🙂
