June 21 show is cancelled but we are hoping for a special July19th show! Have a Happy Father’s Day!

Dad's day

WE STILL MISS YOU! AVFD Hall is still closed and will not open until Governor Hogan moves the state to Stage 3. Therefore, we will not be having our Father’s Day show scheduled for June 21. We are hoping for a special July 19 show if all goes well. We will keep you updated!

It continues to be a challenging time for everyone, including our Arbutus Record show family, vendors, and customers. We are all itching to get back to seeing everyone and looking for our favorite music and music items. But safety first! Keep spinning those favorite tunes.

Hunting around for some great father-related tunes to celebrate our dads, we came across some songs (and links to their videos) about fathers from an article in Good Housekeeping, (click here).

Though spanning many genres, it’s not surprising that many are from country singers but they are for all kinds of dads – stepdads and new dads (Brad Paisley’s “He Didn’t Have To Be”) to those fathers who are no longer with us (Luther Vandross’ “Dance With My Father.” No matter how you celebrate, have a great Father’s Day.

First of all, WE MISS YOU! Because Baltimore City and County are still under Stay-at-Home orders for the safety and health of everyone, we will not be having our show as scheduled for May 24 but hope for the possibility of the Father’s Day show, June 21.

There is never been a July show but maybe some good news and a first! There will be a July 19th (third Sunday) show if all goes well.

We know it has been a trying time for so many, including our Arbutus Record show family, vendors and customers. We pray that you are all staying safe and well. Music is always a balm in hard times, so keep on listening and dancing and singing along to your favorites.

While at home, I discovered a music genre in the 1990s and 2000s that I was not acquainted with before. “Emo [and the subgenre, Emo Pop], a style of rock music resembling punk but having more complex arrangements and lyrics that deal with more emotional subjects.” I look forward to exploring some of this music when the shows start up again.

Here are some fun TV-related finds that have not been posted previously but found over some past shows. Back in the day, TV shows had great theme music and songs that current shows have gotten away from in the past few decades. Also, stars were encouraged (or wanted) to do albums (whether they could sing or not) with mixed, and sometimes humorous, results – thinking Mr. Spock and William Shatner.  We found that Nichelle Nichols from Star Trek also put out an album.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon in person and having fun searching for our favorite music treasures.

Secret agents, a gal from space, detectives, kids’ shows, comedies, and teen idols!
