We had another great show at the Arbutus Fire Hall on March 18th! Janet and Derek were all decked out in their green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and the ladies in the kitchen served up delicious corned beef and cabbage while the hall was filled with vendors and shoppers hunting for special treasures!
We experienced a great moment that proves you are never too young to start collecting! We was so thrilled to meet Jacob who came to the show with his dad. At eight years old, he acquired his love for the TheBeatles through his mom. He was so proud to pose with his two record album finds which are unquestionably classics – Hey Jude and Abbey Road! We look forward to seeing more of Jacob (below) at our upcoming shows!
Sam Locke from the Record Exchange also set up a booth (below) with great music selections! Welcome Sam!
Don’t forget to come back to see photos and finds from our April 15th show!
Join us this Sunday, February 18 at the Arbutus Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. Admission is FREE! We also have great food on site, serving great breakfast and lunch! Fabulous deals and a wonderful variety of music-related items to be found!
We had a great turnout at our first show of 2018 in January! Janet was seen sporting the new Arbutus Record Show T-shirt (which you can purchase at the show) and her groovy record earrings. Janet and Frank also showed us that they are our favorite sweethearts, doing a little dancing to some tunes provided by our announcer extraordinaire, Derek Shaw.
February means love, celebrating our past presidents and it is also Black History Month. We found some wonderful music that celebrates the great contributions of African Americans to American music history – jazz, soul, blues and pop! Represented are the great ladies of song, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horn and Billie Holiday; The Story of Jazz as written and narrated by celebrated author, Langston Hughes; albums by Sam Cooke, Etta James, and jazz greats Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie; 60s supergroup Sly and The Family Stone; and pop all-stars like Prince and the Jacksons on picture discs! Even a fun album by the “greatest” – boxer Cassisus Clay – soon to be known as Muhammad Ali! So come on down and get your groove on this Sunday! See you there!
Happy New Year! We hope you had a great holiday season! December show was a great success as people found treasures and gifts for their favorite music lovers. We return this Sunday, January 21 at the Arbutus Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm where admission is always FREE! We also have food on site, serving great breakfast and lunch options.
Last year we had a chance to talk to two of our great vendors who work together as a team – Bob (left) and Evan (right). They joined forces about two years ago when Evan found a treasure trove of albums – almost 11,000 records! – from one collector and they decided to purchase the whole lot. We discovered that Evan is a contemporary jazz lover (like Paul Hardcastle and Pat Metheny) and Bob is a HUGE Beatles fan. As they said, you never know what you are going to find [at the Arbutus Record Show] or who you are going to meet. These two are great guys – always cheerful and friendly, and they come to the show with wonderful music finds! So stop by their booth this Sunday and say “hi” while looking through their selection of albums and other goodies.
We thank our wonderful vendors, like Bob and Evan, and our patrons. Looks like it’s going to be another great year in 2018! See you this Sunday!
Some of their treasures:

We would like to send condolences and prayers the family of Marty Stuber. We lost our dear friend Marty this past Thursday, December 14. She will be missed by all her friends, especially those who chatted with her and hung out at Jack’s tables at both the Lancaster Record Show as well as at the Arbutus Record & CD Show. Marty was our dealer Jack Supplee’s sweetheart.

We want to give a special shoutout to a great friend of the show and longtime vendor. Al Ercolani Jr had come back to the show after a long absence. But that kind heart of his needed some support and in October he had triple bypass surgery. He posts on his FB page that he is doing well. We wish Al a speedy recovery and hope to see him soon!

A hard-to-find, original Wonder Woman doll!
We also have a lovely new vendor who debuted last month and will return this Sunday! Kara Partyka has a beautiful booth full of the artwork of many talented artists who have done portraits and interpretations of iconic musicians. She even makes her own original rock and roll themed greeting cards. Hidden among Kara’s treasures are hard to find dolls of performers such as Debbie Harry aka Blondie and the late Joey Ramone, lead singer of the New York City punk band, the Ramones. We are sure she will bringing more of her cool finds this Sunday so stop by and say hello!
This is the month of the 40th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s passing and his influence and music is as strong ever! Many of our vendors have tons of great Elvis music!

Search for some special music gifts for your favorite dad! One of our favorite dads is Frank Ruehl who runs this great show with his better half, Janet. Also one or the other of Frank’s daughters and his son-in-law also help out with the shows. Show your dad some music love with some great gifts!
This is a rare treasure found at the show last month by one of our buyers – a lithograph, titled “Frank Zappa (1940-1993) Only In It For The Music” (possibly a reference and homage to Zappa and one of his first albums We’re Only in It for the Money). It was created and hand signed by Cal Schenkel – only one of 1000 printed! This artist specializes in album cover design and became the main visual artist for Baltimore native Frank Zappa when they met in 1967. The albums included We’re Only in it for the Money, The Grand Wazoo, Cruising with Ruben & the Jets, Just another Band from L.A and One Size Fits All to name to name a few. Some say he was the precursor to the era of punk and new wave art. He appeared in two of Zappa’s films and even did a few vocals on Lumpy Gravy. Schenkel also designed album covers for such artists as comic Lenny Bruce and Tom Waits.
A few other treasures found last month – a Beatles banner, a Mick Jagger poster (front and back) and a collection of rare Elvis records.
The show featured in The Washington Post and the return of beloved vendor
This month we have another special fourth Sunday show over Memorial Weekend on May 28th. We have two pieces of great news! John Kelly wrote a great feature this week in The Washington Post,“At this Maryland vinyl fest, the wax will never wane” and you can view it here or on ourFacebook page. It features two of our vendors Greg Greenstein and Tim Harris (he will be there!) Here are a couple of screen shots.
Our second piece of news…after a long absence, a very much missed vendor and all around nice guy will be returning to the show. We were so delighted to see him at last month’s show and thrilled that he will be here this Sunday. Stop by and visit Al Ercolani at his booth to welcome him back.
