We are BACK with a very special JULY SHOW — Sunday, July 18th! Cool down and look for fun, summer tunes to rock your next barbecue or vacation! The show runs 9 am – 3 pm, and always FREE Admission with FREE and ample parking. It was great to see our fearless leader, Frank, last month, thankfully on his way to recovering from Covid.

This year, we get to share some of Father’s Day with you for our June 20th show. It is extra special because our favorite dad and the man responsible (along with his better half, Janet) for our great show, Frank, will be making a brief appearance after beating back Covid! We had a great show last month, but we missed Frank and his great tables of music —along with his expertise. Thanks to great doctors and lots of prayers and good wishes from our record show family, he is home and on the mend! We look forward to seeing him and he will be happy to see all of you! Masks are highly recommended for the safety of our dealers and customers.

The show runs 9 am – 3 pm, always FREE and always FREE and ample parking. We have to wear our masks for a bit longer but July will be coming and we will have a special show! Stayed tuned!

Plenty of FREE parking at the COOL Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department Hall. Masks are still required. Bring your family and friends to pick up rockin’ tunes for your Memorial Day celebration! The Arbutus Record Show is held at the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department Hall located at 5200 Southwestern Boulevard in beautiful Arbutus, MD.

We had a wonderful show in April and Janet took some great photos of our visitors and vendors in their fun T-shirts. Do you have a favorite T-shirt from a concert back in the day that you still wear? We would love to see you in them on May 23!

Spring is finally here! Deals will be blooming at our next show, Sunday, April 18, at the Arbutus Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. Admission is FREE and parking is FREE! This is our normal third weekend of the month since the spring holidays were early this year. We still have to wear our masks in compliance with the state law and safety for everyone. Please continue to MASK UP, socially distance, and bring your own food and drink.

Last month’s show was AMAZING with such a great crowd all day long. It was also a wonderful opportunity to get some great photos as well of lots of the great finds at the show!

We had the opportunity to meet Lou Vlangas, who partners with our wonderful announcer, Derek Shaw at the Keystone Record Collectors show, the Pennsylvania Music Expo, every month (usually the weekend before the Arbutus show). Lou is the show coordinator, announcer and does the table reservations. At our show in March he showed up with a gem! The first 45 record every pressed, recorded by Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup – and it’s even color vinyl!

SPRING IS COMING! So is our next show, Sunday, March 28!

Spring is just around the corner and so is our March show! This month it is the fourth Sunday! Come by Sunday, March 28 at the Arbutus Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. Admission is FREE and parking is FREE! We had a great show in February but, alas, all the great photos taken were lost when the old phone just couldn’t go on. I have a new one and ready to shoot lots of great photos at the March show. Below are a couple of Janet’s great shots.

Even though we hope many of of you have or will be getting vaccines, we still have to wear our masks in compliance with the state law. Continue to MASK UP, socially distance, and bring your own food and drink. We will have lots of great vendors and music treasures.

Remember the days when you sat listening to your favorite song on the radio so you could tape it on your cassette player? Remember all those favorite mix tapes? We can thank Dutch inventor, Lou Ottens, who passed on March 6, 2021 at the age of 94. Not only did he invent the audio cassette, he also invented the CD player! The chart below, credit to Forbes India, illustrates his contributions. Where would music lovers be without him? We have lots of dealers who sell both cassettes and CDs.

We had a great show in January to start the new year with some of our old favorites and some new vendors – Zane from New Jersey and Ron and Betty with TONS of 45s.

Sadly we just lost the legendary Mary Wilson, founding member of one of Motown’s legendary groups, Diana Ross and the Supremes. They brought us a whole lot of love songs so it is fitting we honor Ms. Wilson this month. What is your favorite Supremes song?

So make a plan for our next show, Sunday, February 21. Hours are 9 am – 3 pm. Always FREE ADMISSION and FREE PARKING. Even if you have been fortunate enough to be vaccinated, ALL COVID safety precautions are still in place – masks covering mouth AND nose, social distancing and sanitize/washing of hands. Bring your own food and drink as we still can’t have the breakfast/lunch vendor yet.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and safe New Year! It was a challenging one. We had to cancel a few shows but there were great shows towards the end of 2020 — and respectful of Covid safety. Thank you all — vendors, customers and followers — for your continuing support!

We are looking forward to a year of great shows in 2021 but let’s start with our first show of the year on Sunday, January 17th! Great vendors will be at the Arbutus Fire Hall from 9 am – 3 pm where admission AND parking is always FREE. Please continue to adhere to COVID safety precautions — wear your mask at all times (covering the mouth AND nose) and socially-distance. We aren’t able to have food served for purchase yet, so remember to bring your own food and drinks.

We sadly lost so many great musicians last year, and most recently Gerry Marsden of the great British band of the Beatles era —also from Liverpool and also managed by Brian Epstein — Gerry and the Pacemakers. Legend has it that he wrote “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying” for his girlfriend at the time because they had broken up — and she became his wife! We will miss that golden voice. We lost so many from all over the music spectrum — Little Richard, Eddie Van Halen, Bill Withers, Kenny Rogers, John Prine, Helen Reddy, Mac Davis, Charlie Daniels, and so many, many more. Thankfully we will always have their great music and it is one heck of a band upstairs!

We had a great show last month! It has been a challenging year but we were able to resume our shows and this is the last for 2020 – Sunday, December 20 —just in time for the holidays! Celebrate the season while looking for wonderful music gifts – DVDs, CDs, vinyl, posters, books, T-shirts, picture discs, and much more! We are open from 9 am to 3 pm and admission and parking are always FREE! Please continue to adhere to COVID safety precautions and wear your mask at all times (which means covering the mouth AND nose) and socially-distance. This is particularly important at this time.

Sadly we lost another great one, country music singer Charley Pride. He was a pioneer with a golden voice. Could be you can find some of his wonderful Christmas albums at the show.

After celebrating Mr. Jack‘s 90th birthday in September, we had quite a scare with him at last month’s show. This post from our “sister” show Pennsylvania Music Expo sums up the day and how the Arbutus Record Show family showed what a wonderful village we are.

“Long time Pennsylvania Music Expo vendor and good friend, Jack Supplee, wasn’t feeling well. He was set up next to Lou Vlangas. Lou turned to see Jack on the floor (relax he’s okay.) A number of us rushed to his side, got the paramedics, and off to the hospital he went. Lou and Sarah Malloy kept his tables going for him through the day. To our surprise, Jack was discharged and returned late afternoon. At 90 years old, we have to consider, maybe he really is Superman. The best part is the end of the day. When it was time to load out, we told Jack we would help him. In one of the best acts of kindness we’ve ever seen, lined up at his table to help him load was: Billy Martin with his cart, Lou Vlangas with his cart, Derek Shaw with his cart, Will Williams with his cart and John Hertzog with his cart. It was an act of kindness that brought tears to Jack’s eyes as well as others. Jack words, while in tears, were ‘It’s wonderful to have such good friends.’….IT WAS PRICLESS. As they say, it takes a village.”

jack Celebrating Mr. Jack’s 90th birthday at the September show!

Fall is here and soon Halloween will be upon us! Come by the show at the Arbutus Fire Department Hall from 9 am – 3 pm. NO admission and plenty of FREE parking! We have our wonderful vendors back and continue to adhere to COVID safety precautions. Please wear your mask at all times (which means covering the mouth AND nose) and remember to socially-distance. The tables are socially-distanced in the hall for your safety too.

We look forward to doing all our remaining shows this year. So it’s not too early to mark your calendars for the NOVEMBER 15 and DECEMBER 20 shows!

Last month, along with our great finds, we celebrated Mr. Jack’s 90th birthday a few days early! We remember when we had a party because he said he was retiring. But you can’t keep a good man down. He’s has more energy than most people half his age!

On a sadder note, we lost guitarist extraordinaire, Eddie Van Halen early in October. Another giant of the music world gone too soon at 65 from cancer. The legendary guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder of the 80s rock group, Van Halen, he is considered one of the most talented and ground-breaking guitarists of all time. With hit after hit, including “Jump,” “Panama,” and “Hot for Teacher” to name a few, the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Fun fact: Van Halen contributed the guitar solo in Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” from Jackson’s monster hit album, “Thriller.”
